 Museum of Neon Art

Today was our random LA activity day and it started out with a trip to Rhino Records. This great indie record store, also notable for their many Rhino compilation CDs and box sets, was near our hotel so we had to make a stop.

This CD defies explanation... something cool and Fort Worth related!

After perusing the CD and LP bins at Rhino, it was time for lunch in the nearby Westwood Village at an In-N-Out Burger on the edge of the UCLA campus. Only located in California, Nevada and Arizona, In-N-Out has been serving the same great taste since 1948, and they still only have six things on the menu: burger, cheeseburger, double burger, fries, drinks and shakes. What more could one want?

After lunch we drove to downtown LA to visit the Museum of Neon Art. The museum hosts rotating exhibits of classic neon signs and art and sculpture that make use of neon lighting. It was a neat place and worth the lengthy cross-Hollywood drive through stop and go traffic on Wilshire Boulevard.

...I'll take the 5th on this one...

The final stop today was to see The Shins in concert at the beautiful art-deco Wiltern Theatre at the corner of Wilshire and Western in LA. The Shins have become somewhat notable "indie" rockers (or badical bands as the Rhino window indicated) with their albums "Oh Inverted World" and "Chutes to Narrow" and put on a great show, complete with some stunning tricks with bubble solution. Several thousand ringer t-shirt and black rimmed glasses wearing fans were in attendance and all went home happy.
