Los Angeles, California to Tempe, Arizona
418 Miles (2145 Miles Total) Sunny - 104F
Indio,
California
On our way out of Los Angeles we
stopped in San Dimas, legendary home town of Bill and Ted, whose
excellent adventure is "like the best movie ever" according
to Amy. The most appropriate place to stop was at San Dimas High
School, and if you are a fan of the movie or of the punk band The
Ataris you will understand why. San Dimas High School Football may
not rule, but they are definitely most non-heinous.
...strange
things are afoot at the Circle K...
Grabbing some In-N-Out in Fontana
and departing the western cities of SoCal on I-10, we headed back
into the desert for Arizona. The temperature soon climbed to 115F
before dropping to a cool 106F at Indio where we made a fuel stop
at a 76 gas station, complete with rotating 76 ball. The high sun
made for difficult photography but I think the pics of Quark with
the classic 76 ball turned out okay. It's funny how you never see
phone booths these days until they show up in the background of
you photo to create unwanted clutter...
...note
the cost of gas in the background...
The rest of the day was desert driving
before stopping in Tempe and checking in to a Comfort Inn on the
edge of the ASU campus. The downtown Tempe are along Mill Street
was a fun place to spend the evening and eat at a great wood-fired
pizza restaurant. It was still 94F when we made it back to the hotel
around 11PM. But it's a dry heat...
...the 76K that appeared to be an error in "the Matrix"...
a long geeky story...
