Battle Creek, Michigan to Fremont, Indiana    153 Miles (3296 Miles Total)     Partly Cloudy - 78F

The best to you each morning

Over 100 years ago, as a health movement swept the nation, several sanitariums were constructed in Battle Creek, Michigan. Patients at these institutions were served a unique flaked corn cereal. The favorite meal at the sanitarium is now more commonly know as Kellogg's Corn Flakes and enjoyed by millions on their breakfast tables each morning. Home to both the Kellogg's and the Post family, Battle Creek soon became the cereal capital of the world. As production and distribution of Corn Flakes, Rice Crispies and Frosted Flakes and other Kellogg's cereals overshadowed the operation of the "resort-like" sanitariums, Battle Creek became more famous as the home of the Kellogg's headquarters and production plant (Post would always play second fiddle in this town) and less as the start of the "road to wellville".

This past is celebrated at Kellogg's Cereal City, which documents both the history of Battle Creek and the company along with providing an inside look at the production of everybody's favorite Kellogg's breakfast cereals. Combine this with liberal use of the Kellogg's mascots, Tony the Tiger, Cornelius Rooster, Toucan Sam, Dig'em the Frog and Snap Crackle 'n Pop, and you have a very interesting stop for the morning.

Cereal City Quiz: I'm thinking...

c) this Japanese tourist is about to steal my camera

After spending the morning in Battle Creek I drove south to a Hampton Inn just inside the Indiana State line where I changed and prepared to attend the wedding of Jim, one of my friends from the U of I. There were several other Illini in attendance and it was great seeing them again. I'm not going to post pictures here, since I don't know everybody and if they really want to be pictured on this site. It was a nice ceremony and the reception offered a great opportunity to catch up on what's been going on since everybody left campus.
