Binghamton, New York to Iroquois, Ontario, Canada 536 Miles (2337 Miles Total) Cloudy - 84F

Mmmmmm....
Legend has it that baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown NY during the 1840s. Although we now know that this is a fairy tale created to assure an American origin of the "National Pastime", thousands of people make a pilgrimage to this tiny Norman Rockwellian town to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame. Although the Hall is currently being renovated (scheduled for completion for summer 2005) the plaques of all the inductees are still on display. The descriptions engraved on the plaques encapsulate over a century of baseball history and envoke classic images of the game.

From Cooperstown I headed east on the New York State Thruway to Albany, where I squeezed in a short side trip through Massachusetts and Vermont before returning to New York and heading north to Canada on I-91. Now that Vermont and Mass have been added to the list, I've been to 41 of the 50 states.

The border crossing into Canada went relatively smoothly on this occasion as I travelled into Quebec. Bill 101 in Quebec manadates that all signage in the province must be French-only (while the rest of the country is bilingual... grumble, grumble). This makes for some rather interesting signs...

Cutting across southern Quebec I made my way to Ontario and highway 401, which took me west to the village of Iroquois. I have relatives in Iroquois and my parents, who happen to be on a road trip of their own, were also waiting for me there. They had to wait a little longer than expected as I stopped at a 401 service center Tim Horton's for a box of Timbits... it's a Canadian thing, you wouldn't understand (well, unless you're canadian).
